In an industry that prides itself on having the latest stone-cutting technology, our approach is a bit different— “State of the Art 1895”.
The actual date does not mean much and doesn't indicate a manufacturing date of any of our machinery. It represents an era when stone mills began to integrate industrial age tools and machinery into their manufacturing processes, even as they continued to use hand tools and methods from medieval and ancient times.
The “1895” time period has the balance of old and new technology that we appreciate and try to emulate in our workshop. Tools that we use in our shop today—like planers, lathes, pneumatic hammers and chisels—were also used at the turn of the century.
This respect for traditional processes and designs is what inspires us every day...we believe that technology should not drive the design. Our mission is to produce work that combines the efficiency of machines with the aesthetics of hand-work.
